Oscar de la Hoya predicts Crawford vs Canelo whitewash: “He’ll run right through him”

The stage is set - Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford will come face to face for the first time to scrap it out in Las Vegas on 13 September with with the Mexican’s unified WBC, WBA and WBO 168lb titles on the line.

It has has sparked great speculation in the boxing world, and Canelo will be stepping into the ring to face IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh in May to warm up for the mega-fight that has everyone talking.

Including former WBO lightweight title holder Oscar de la Hoya, who knows Canelo well from his early post-boxing days when he was starting out as a promoter.

Canelo too big and too strong for Crawford

While De la Hoya is in no doubt about Crawford’s pedigree and qualities, he feels there will be only one winner in this contest. “Look, fighter versus fighter and talent, obviously Crawford is the craftier boxer but Canelo has the size, he has the power and it’s like [Top Rank CEO, Bob] Arum said, he’ll run right through him,” he told FightHype.

“It’ll be a tough fight but stylistically I mean yeah it’ll be a one-sided fight for maybe let’s say seven rounds and then Canelo starts attacking, attacking, he starts to take it to deep waters and the power will eventually be too much. Will it be a great fight? Will it be a huge event? Absolutely!”

Crawford is undefeated with a 41-0 record, including 31 KOs, and believes a win over Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) will cement his legacy as one of the greatest boxers of all time.
