The FedExCup playoffs format has always pitted the best golfers in the world with Tiger Woods winning the first edition in 2007 the list of past winners is a who’s who of recent golfing greats. This year will be more of the same as the number one in the world, Scottie Scheffler leads the race going into the last tournament with last year’s winner, Patrick Cantlay, following him in second place.

Cantlay won the second playoffs event this past weekend, and has has positioned himself as the favorite to win the FedExCup and become just the third player to do it more than once. McIlroy, who has also won a couple of TOUR Championships himself, and Scottie Scheffler, will be the main rivals the current champ will have to face this week. As the best golfers of this year fight for the honor and the money of finishing the season at the top, we look back at the past winners.

  • 2010. Jim Furyk. Consistency in the playoffs saw Furyk obtain a great win after a couple of rough years.
  • 2011. Bill Haas. With a sudden death finish, Haas victory was an epic comeback from 25th in the standings to Tour Champion.
  • 2012. Brandt Snedeker. The golfer from Atlanta got his best triumph just some hundred miles away from his home.
  • 2013. Henrik Stenson. The European golfer, now known for his desertion from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf, conquered the TOUR years before departing it.
  • 2014. Billy Horschel.
  • 2015. Jordan Spieth. An impressive season where Spieth won two Majors was capped off with this victory, but he has never reached those levels again.
  • 2016. Rory McIlroy. The first of the Northern Irishman wins came after a couple of close finishes in years prior and a three-man playoff to finally get the win.
  • 2017. Justin Thomas. Another American star that finished a great season by winning the TOUR Championship, Thomas is yet to reach these heights again.
  • 2018. Justin Rose. A consistent season that will be remembered by his clutch birdie in the 18th to conquer the title.
  • 2019. Rory McIlroy. A second TOUR win that stopped a few years without any major, nor Major, wins.
  • 2020. Dustin Johnson. The American golfer seemed destined to win it a few more times given his dominance in 2020, but he left for LIV Golf and is no longer playing in the PGA Tour.
  • 2021. Patrick Cantlay. Last year Cantlay won over World number one Jon Rahm, he will have to do so again over Scheffler to claim another victory.
