The current weather forecast for Nevada doesn’t make for great reading for Formula 1 fans with drivers also concerned.

Alerts have been raised in the Formula 1 world just days before the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Torrential rains have battered Sin City in recent days, and these are expected to continue when the major event takes place.

According to the weather forecast, rain is expected during Thursday’s practice sessions and possibly also on Friday when qualifying takes place.

However, despite the threat of rain in Las Vegas, Saturday could be a sunnier day, allowing the race to proceed without any issues. Even so, drivers are expressing concern about the practice and qualifying sessions, especially since the Nevada city lacks a proper drainage system to handle heavy rainfall.

What do the drivers say?

Although the race appears likely to go ahead, the drivers are cautious about the first few days of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, knowing that Thursday and Friday will be challenging days for racing.

“It will certainly be a very intense session,” said Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda. “None of the drivers have driven here yet, so I think it will be interesting to see who adapts quickly to these conditions.”

Lando Norris, McLaren driver and leader in the final standings, also referred to the rain that is hitting the city of Las Vegas, and hopes that by Saturday the track will no longer be wet.

“I think it will be an incredibly difficult circuit in the rain, yes, quite nasty, I think. It’s going to be a huge challenge. Obviously, there’s not much room for error: quite tricky and quite fast for a street circuit,” the British driver noted.

“You have the white lines, all the paint, which is sometimes quite awful when you’re in the car. It’ll be quite an insane challenge if it stays wet, especially if it doesn’t dry very quickly because of the temperature. So I’m excited about both things, but I’d prefer it to be dry.”
