Ryan Garcia vows revenge after comeback loss: “Simple as that”
Talks are reportedly underway about a rematch between Garcia and Rolly Romero, who defeated the American by unanimous decision in May.

Ryan Garcia’s long-awaited return to the ring didn’t go as planned. The 25-year-old was handed just the second loss of his professional career, falling to Rolando “Rolly” Romero by unanimous decision in a fight for the vacant WBA welterweight title. The bout marked Garcia’s comeback after a year-long suspension for testing positive for ostarine, a banned performance-enhancing substance.

According to The Ring, talks for a rematch between Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) and Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) are already well underway.

Garcia explains Romero defeat
“That night wasn’t me,” Garcia told the legendary boxing magazine. “I was dealing with issues in both hands, coming off a year of inactivity, and I had a weird training camp—just four weeks with Derrick James—and then fought in front of a small crowd.”
Garcia’s previous suspension stemmed from a positive test for ostarine following his high-profile win over Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs). The substance is commonly used to boost muscle mass and strength.
But Garcia insists things are different now. He says he’s in a far better place—mentally, physically, and emotionally—after a turbulent year that saw him battle addiction rumors and erratic behavior.
“Healthy” Ryan Garcia to “knock Rolly out”
“Our first fight was awkward—he never came at me,” Garcia said. “We both hit hard, and that made it weird. But I’ve got a plan for next time. I’m going to break him down and drag him into deep waters. Rolly doesn’t handle pressure well, and while he’s got power, he hates fighting on the inside. You all saw what happened when he faced Isaac Cruz.
“A healthy version of me knocks Rolly out—simple as that.”
