How many Russian fighters has Canelo fought?
Saúl Canelo Álvarez has never lost against a Russian boxer and Bivol will be his third opponent from that country. The Mexican pound-for-pound king first defeated Marat Khuzeev from Russia when he was only 19-years-old and the fight took place at auditorio Benito Juárez de Zapopan in Mexico City.
The second time he fought and defeated a Russian boxer was Sergey Kovalev back in November 2019. That fight ended after 11 rounds with Canelo Álvarez knocking him out to take victory.
“Right now, I have Bivol,” said Canelo during a Media Conference Call. “He’s stronger than Kovalev, yes. He’s a solid champion at 175, a really good fighter. So, it’s a challenge for me, and this kind of challenge motivates me. I’m trying to extend my legacy.”
