At the World Athletics Championships taking place in Eugene, Oregon, a protagonist apart from the athletes is making headlines: the official mascot ‘Legend the Bigfoot’. This mascot is causing laughter among those attending the event with his interactions with the public and positive energy. In addition to his multiple dances on the track, and the different choreographies he performs, he’s even bathing in the estuary that is on the 3,000-meter obstacle course.

On Monday, however, the person disguised as this beloved mascot found himself in a bit of a pickle. Someone had stolen the head of the costume! Fortunately, it only remained an anecdote since the head was quickly found by the police and returned to its original carrier.

An accredited photographer working at the championships related to the theft and was removed from Hayward Field. “We can confirm that an accredited photographer was expelled from the stadium in connection with a robbery investigation.” assured the organizers.

Saul Hubbard, a University of Oregon Police Department spokesperson said the photographer cooperated with police and is now no longer considered a person of interest. “The theft remains under active investigation and UOPD will not be releasing further information at this time,” said Hubbard.

The large yellow character was announced as the official mascot of the championships which are taking place at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, back in March.

This is the first time the World Athletics Championships are taking place in the U.S., running from July 15 to 24.
