Update:

In an exclusive interview with DAZN, former WBC light middleweight champion Sergio Mora weighed in on the upcoming all-Mexican Cinco de Mayo clash between Saúl Canelo Álvarez and Jaime Munguia.

While Canelo is the first and only boxer in history to become undisputed champion at super middleweight, Munguia is the new threat on the block. Hailing from Tijuana, Mexico, Munguia is 43-0 with a whopping 34 knockouts. As one of the hardest hitting fighters on the planet, many in boxing are predicting a changing of the guard.

But Mora is more circumspect. Acknowledging that it will be a war, the Latin Snake says, “Munguia is the type of fighter that hasn’t tasted defeat, the type of fighter that comes forward looking for the knockout, has that Mexican style. And he is going to have the size advantage over Canelo.

But Mora continues on to say that while this will be a nuclear war, he sees it going only one way. “You can bet Jaime Munguia is going to go for the kill or he’s going to go down swinging. Either way, it’s going to be hombre versus hombre, and someone’s going to go down swinging. Most likely it will be Mungia, but it’s going to be fun while it lasts.”

Pushed further on Munguia’s chances, Mora says that if he does manage to beat Canelo, then Munguia will instantly become the true face of boxing. “That’s how you become great, that’s how you become a star overnight, by shocking the world and conquering the odds. There is a saying in Mexico, ‘Si se puede.’ And Jaime Munguia can definitely do that.”

As they say in boxing, it only takes one punch. And that is a punch that Jaime Munguia packs in his arsenal. The Canelo vs Munguia bout is on Saturday, May 4.
