Shakur Stevenson: “Terence Crawford would beat Canelo”
One of the biggest rising boxing stars, Shakur Stevenson, said ‘Bud’ would defeat Canelo despite being the smaller man.
Terence Crawford wants Jermell Charlo for a simple reason, he wants to keep making history. The Omaha native has become the main focus of news since he dismantled Errol Spence Jr. last Saturday in a performance that will hardly be forgotten.
Crawford became the undisputed welterweight king and the pound-for-pound No.1 boxer after his exhibition against The Truth, who saw the referee stopping the fight in the ninth round after having received a lot of damage and having gone to the canvas a few times.
Bud, the only fighter ever to be undisputed in two weight divisions (light welterweight, welterweight), now wants Jermell next, as he is the current undisputed light middleweight champion.
Stevenson sees Crawford beating Canelo
Shakur Stevenson, who recently called out the undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney, spoke about Crawford and Saúl Álvarez and predicted the outcome of a hypothetical fight between them.
“Terrence Crawford is running things right now. As for who he should face next, I would love to see him go up against Charlo. Although Charlo is already lined up against Canelo, I genuinely believe Crawford could beat Canelo”, he said.
“Being a southpaw with good movement and solid boxing, it would be tough for Canelo to walk Crawford down and load up on his powerful hooks”, he added.
“I wish Charlo wasn’t fighting against Canelo but it is what it is. I think Bud could beat Canelo. I would like to see it just because I know like, I don’t think size wins fights, I think skills do”, Stevenson continued.
Stevenson is now waiting for a big fight after easily defeating Shuichiro Yoshino by TKO in the sixth round in April. He would like to fight Vasiliy Lomachenko next, as he sees the Ukrainian as one of the biggest names in his division.
