Stevenson on a potential Davis bout: “The biggest fight in boxing”

Rising star Shakur Stevenson, regarded by many as the future of boxing, recently said that a fight between him and Gervonta Davis would be the biggest showdown in the sport.

Rising star Shakur Stevenson, regarded by many as the future of boxing, recently said that a fight between him and Gervonta Davis would be the biggest showdown in the sport.

Gervonta Davis is the man of the moment. The Baltimore-bred fighter is now considered the “face of boxing” after his impressive display of skills and power against Ryan Garcia, who lost by a seventh-round KO.

Tank, who remains unbeaten (29-0, 27 KOs), sent Garcia to the canvas for the first time in the second round after counterpunching his opponent with a precise left hook.

From then on, the former Mayweather Promotions fighter controlled the fight most of the time, and in the seventh round, he sealed the win with a devastating left hand on KingRy’s liver, as the Californian boxer didn’t stand up while given the 10 count by the referee.

Davis, who recently said his win over Garcia has been the biggest of his career, will now be looking to face the top boxers in the lightweight division, with Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson, and Vasiliy Lomachenjo being on his wish list.

Davis vs Stevenson: a dream fight

Despite Stevenson’s youth, he has already proven why he’s already one of the most respected names in world boxing.

The 25-year-old undefeated boxer (20-0, 10 KOs) has shown in his fights that although he doesn’t possess Davis’ power, he hits hard, has great footwork, speed, and a big variety of punches.

His last victim was the Japanese Shuichiro Yoshino, who got into the ring with Shakur also as an undefeated fighter and ended up being beaten via a sixth-round technical knockout.

Speaking with TMZ Sports, Stevenson said that there isn’t a bigger fight than a potential showdown between him and Davis:

“I think that’s the biggest and best fight in the sport of boxing. You’ve got special fighters that come around”.

“I felt Tank looked sharp, he looked real sharp, he boxed real good. I think Ryan was like pre-school, Ryan wasn’t on that level” Stevenson added.

Although the Newark fighter hasn’t fought anyone near the talent of Davis yet, he is confident he’s ready to take on the challenge:

I’m ready right now. But I think it’s depending on what he wants to do. He’s the cash cow, he’s the A-side. He can pick and choose right now”.

Davis admitted Stevenson is without a doubt among the three fighters he pretends to fight and defeat before retiring, but Gervonta might decide to fight Devin Haney first, as The Dream possesses the four belts in the lightweight division.

However, he will first need to beat Lomachenko, as both men will collide in May in Las Vegas in another huge fight where anything can happen.
