In Eugene, 2022, the USA led the medal table of the World Athletics Championships with 33 medals: 13 gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze. Twenty-three of those athletes will participate in this year’s Budapest championships, from August 19th to 27th, making up a powerful team of 139 athletes.

Several notable athletes will aim to dominate multiple podiums in events like shot put and men’s 100 meters, or hammer throw and women’s pole vault. Starting with the sprint events, Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson will compete in both the 100 and 200 meters. Lyles, the current 200-meter world champion, will attempt to achieve the rare double gold that hasn’t been seen in a World Championship since Usain Bolt accomplished it in 2015.

McLaughlin will not compete in hurdles event

Another prominent name is Sydney McLaughlin, who won the gold in the 400-meter hurdles in Eugene with an incredible time of 50.68 seconds. McLaughlin won’t be participating in the 400-meter hurdles in Budapest as she seeks the top spot on the podium in the flat 400 meters.

Other athletes with strong aspirations include Athing Mu (800 meters), Michael Norman (400 meters), Ryan Crouser (shot put), Grant Holloway (110-meter hurdles), Erriyon Knighton (200 meters), Fred Kerley (100 meters), Valarie Allman (discus), Katie Moon (pole vault), Brooke Andersen (hammer throw), and Chase Ealey (shot put).
