Augusta 2022 Masters final day summary: Scheffler wins, scores, final leaderboard
This is the moment that Scottie Scheffler wil rememeber forever. He is the 86th Master Champion.
The birdie on 15 was the icing on the cake as Scheffler cruised to victory in the final few holes.
Scheffler showed no late round nerves, as he extended his lead on 14.
McIlroy ended his incredible day in specatcular fashion with this birdie on 18 to secure a final round 64 to finish the tournament -7.
Scheffler was steady through the front nine and got his second birdie of the day on seven.
This chip on three will be remembered as the shot of Scottie's day, if not week.
Scottie Scheffler (-10) is the 86th Master Champion after a near flawless final round from Augusta on Sunday. The world’s top ranked golfer shot a final round 71 to secure his first ever major championship.
Scheffler unflappable
Scheffler went into the final with a commanding lead that he had held since late Friday afternoon. HIs third round didn’t end too smoothly as he finished with four bogeys in his last seven holes, but the Jersey born golfer showed no signs of nerves coming into his final round with a three stroke lead.
The now four-time winner on the tour this year was rock solid on the first nine, keeping his distance over his pairing partner Cameron Smith who came out firing with two birdies on the first two holes.
The leader going into Saturday didn’t waver as his lead was cut to just one heading into the third hole. On the third shot of the Par 4 third, Scheffler hit the shot of his tournament hitting the pin for birdie from 30 yards out while Smith had a bogey to give Scheffler a two shot swing.
Smith triple put him out of the running
Holding steady, Scheffler finished the front nine two under after birding the seventh. Smith was still in the hunt towards the back nine, but a triple bogey on the Par 3 twelfth shut the door on any chances the Aussie had at a comeback.
It was Rory McIlroy who came the closest to challenging Scheffler in the back nine. McIlroy came into the day at +1, but an outstanding front nine in which he went five under started to turn some heads. The roar of the day came on the Par 5 thirteenth when former world number one eagled to get to -6 on the tournament. Rory couldn’t keep the magic alive until the 18th hole when both he and Collin Morikawa holed out from the sand for birdies.
McIlory (-7) ended the tournament in second place after shooting an eight under 64 on Sunday.
Scheffler's fourth win this year
Scheffler shook his third round blues aside to finish the back nine in incredible fashion. Back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 gave him a wide enough cushion to stroll to victory. His eighteenth was really his only lapse in concentration all week, when he four putted for double bogey, but by that time he was already thinking of which arm he was going to put in the Green Jacket first.
He ended the tournament three strokes about McIlroy to claim his fourth PGA tour win in the last month and a half.
The 86th Masters Champion will be wearing that Green Jacket all night. All week. And maybe even all month.
This is Scheffler's fourth win in the last month and a half. He is rightly named the top ranked golfer in the world.
There weren't the usual nerves for a leader walking up 18 for Scheffler. He led by five heading into the final hole and and closed out the tournament with a comforable cushion.
It took a little longer than he might have liked, but Scheffler finally sees the ball drop to secure the Green Jacket.
The top ranked player in the world gets his Masters moment.
Scheffler wins his first major!
It wasn't the prettiest or most poetic of finishes for Scheffler, who closed his round with a four-putt double bogey. But he built up such a lead that a double on the final hole of the Masters didn't even made him sweat.

Smith finishes tied for third
Cameron Smith finishes with a par on 18, to wrap up a one-over 73. Smith didn't make many mistakes today, but the ones he did make cost him. Especially the tee shot on 12 that led to the triple bogey.
Scheffler's walk up the 18th
It's a rather anticlimactic walk up to the 18th green for Scheffler who has the Green Jacket in the bag, but he won't mind one bit. His wife is in the crowd holding back tears as the top ranked player in the world is on the verge of winning his first major championship ever.
Two way tie for third
Lowry (-5) makes a jump to a tie for third with a birdie on 18 to secure a final round 69. He is level with Cameron Smith who has had birdies on his last two holes.
Scheffler is showing off!
Scottie continues to shoot darts all over the course. While his drive went wayward on the Par 4 seventeenth, his third shot from the fairway was put inside of five feet and the leader saves par to keep a five stroke lead heading into the final hole.
Late in rounds, leaders usually hang on to win. Rarely do they stretch their lead out like Scottie Scheffler is doing in the final few holes of the tournament.
Two holes away from a new champion!
Scheffler with another routine par on 16 to keep the lead at five going into the final two holes. How easy would it have been to let the last few holes of yesterday's round linger with a big lead on Sunday going into the final stretch? Instead Scheffler is two under on his back nine.
Scheffler rolling as the cushion grows
Scheffler (-12) takes another monumentous step towards his first ever major championship. He birdies the 15th and stretches his lead to five strokes. He is playing flawless golf and playing like the number one player in the world during the most important holes of his life.
Scheffler is cruising
This looks done and dusted. Scheffler extended his lead with a birdie on 14 after another masterful approach lobbed behind the hole and spun back to six feet from the hole. He has hit championship winning shots all week, just add this one to the list.
Bogey for Smith
The wheels have fallen off for Cameron Smith who put his tee shot in the woods on the 14th. He had to chip out and then two putted once on the green to drop back to -3 on the tournament. He looks frustrated, and warn out after a mentally draining last few holes.

This McIlroy chip will make sure that Scottie Scheffler doesn't cruise to an easy victory in the final five holes.
What a finish for M&M
Back-to-back bunker shots for McIlroy and Morikawa to end the day! Morikawa had a heck of a day himself, going five under for the day to finish his round in third place. Between McIlroy and Morikawa they went -13 on the day. What a show they gave all day long.
RORY MCILROY!!!!
A birdie on the the 18th from the sand!!!! He went from bunker to bunker off the tee, but ends a perfect round with the perfect shot. He played it down the hill perfectly from the right side bunker, and watched it trickle down to the hole to end the day eight under and -7 for the tournament!
McIlory's is just the eighth 64 shot in Masters History!
Rory finishing a fantastic round
Rory is on the 18th still at -6 currently sitting in second. Meanwhile, both Scheffler and Smith lay up on the second shot on 13. Smith's may not have been intentional, as he is the more desperate, needing a low score in any chance he can get.
His second landed just short of the creek and is lucky not to have found the water on back-to-back holes.
Smith's Green Jacket hopes crushed after triple
That triple will most likely be the final blow to Cameron Smith's Masters chances. He was five under through 12-16 this weekend, but started that stretch today in disasterous fashion.
Smith triples 12!!!
Scottie Scheffler responds after watching Smith birdie 11 with a par after overshooting the green. A fantastic up and down allowed the world's top ranked golfer to save stay at -10 as Smith TRIPLES the 12th after a tee shot in the pond leads to a three putt. Smith is at -4, six shots back of Scheffler.

What a let down for Smith whose tee shot finds the water on 12 after a birdie on the whole before.
Smith birdie brings lead to three
Big putt for Scheffler (-10) to save par after watching Smith (-7) birdie the 11th. Smith stuck his 189 yard second shot to within fifteen feet and by no means had an easy putt, but sank it to give the back nine their first real roar of the day. Scheffler had a seven foot putt and nailed it to keep a three shot cushion.
Opporunity slips for McIlroy
Rory let one slid on the Par 5 15th when he drove into the trees and had to lay up before the green front pond. His wedge didn't check back before hitting and staying in the fringe and settled for a par heading into the final three holes. He stays at -6, four shots behind the leader Scheffler.
Smith can't take advatange of a great save on 10
Scheffler (-10) dropped a shot at 10 opening it up for Smith who had a a great chance for par after a horrid tee shot left him under a bush off the left side of the fairway. His third shot couldn't have been better, but he missed the short par putt to stay four back of Schefler. Smith and McIlroy are both at -6.
What Rory needs
Rory (-6) is on the Par 5 15th at -6. To really be in the mix he has to be thinking -8 at least. Then he will just have to sit back and watch the rest of the tournament playout. Scheffler (-11) has been playing rock solid golf, and you can't imagine him dropping more than four shots on the back nine.
Heading into the back nine
Scheffler and Smith with pars to finish their front nine. Scheffler was much more steady than Smith who started birdie-birdie but followed that up with back-to-back bogeys. Scheffler was two under through the front nine, Smith was one under.
The Rory roar heard around Augusta!
McIlroy eagles the 13th with a beauty of a second shot on the Par 5. He spanked a long iron to within 10 feet and sunk the putt ot get to five shots off the lead. He was +1 to start the day, and is now -6 for the tournament.
Lee's eventful Sunday
Min Woo Lee gave us quite a start to the day. He was six under through the front nine, but cooled off on the final stretch. He had bogeys on five of his last nine holes to finish the tournament at +2 after his 70 on Sunday.
Smith turns on in the back nine
Don't forget that Cameron Smith is -5 on holes 12-16 this weekend. He has jumped on that portion of the course and could be waiting to make his move.
Pars for Scheff and Smith on the Par 5 8th
The fate of the tournament depends of Cameron Smith's ability to stay in the race. He had a tough start the eighth hole. After driving into the bunker, he had to chip out and his following shot the green. After a delicate up hill chip he left him with a tap in for par. Smith is surviving at the moment.
Scheffler continues to play steady golf. He had a shot for a birdie on the Par 5 eighth, but settles for par and keeps the Aussie at a four stroke armslength.
Rory still at -4
McIlroy pars two in a row. He had to work to keep a bogey free round on 11, but he sank a seven footer to stay five under on the day.
A pair of birdies on the seventh
Scheffler and Smith both cup their birdies. The Aussie had a trickier putt going down hill, but still managed to hit the center of the cup to get to -7. Scheffler looking as comfortable as ever drills his birdieto get to -11.
Sweet second shots on the seventh for the final group
Two darts from Smith and Scheffler on their second shots. Both have putts within five feet for birdie.
Not over 'til it's over
No matter how far Scheffler is ahead (if he is ahead) in the final few holes the way he finished the third round will be rattling around his brain. He had bogeys in four of his last seven holes. He also had two birdies in that span, so take that with a grain of salt. Even if there is a big cushion in the final nine holes, don't go anywhere. Yesterday showed us closing out a round when leading at The Masters can be a tricky thing.
Status quo up top
Huge putt from Cameron Smith to stay in the tournament. After bogeys in two of his last three holes he needed to two putt to save par from 60 feet. He was left with a tricky nine footer and sunk it to stay within four strokes.
Scheffler was in a similar position on the green, but had a great lag putt to set up a much easier par putt to stay at -10 through six.
McIl-must see TV
Rory is must watch golf at the moment. I'm sure you are enjoying our live coverage of The Masters, but if you have a TV around make sure you tune in. He's on fire, and straight down the fairway at 11. If you can't tune in, of course we will keep you covered on all of his progress today.
McIlroy (-4) isn't playing any games. He knows he has to go low in a hurry after starting his day at +1, and he has wasted no time. He is five under on his round after this fantastic chip in to put him with in six of Scheffler (-10)
Nothing changes going into the sixth hole
After an evenful first four holes, Smith and Scheffler both par the fifth. That was Smith's first par of the round, and a little calm comes over the Aussie after a feverish start.
Smith drops another shot!
Cameron Smith has followed two birdies with back-to-back bogeys to bring him down to earth after a stratospheric start. His tee shot went in the green front bunker and missed his seven footer for par. He's now -6, four shots back of Scheffler.
Can Rory keep it up?
McIlroy is on the prowl! He is four under for the day and is coming off of back-to-back birdies. He's -3 for the tournament and heading into the back nine.
Chip in from Scheffler!!!
Scottie out of nowhere!! After a pulled drive on three forced him to take his second from the pine straw he left his approach short of the green, but drilled the pin on an up hill chip with very little green to work with. He's back to -10 and three shots up after Smith bogeys for the first time today.
Smith (-7) was in a similar postion as Scheffler off the tee but left himself a quick downhill putt for par which just curled infront of the cup.
Rory still hunting?
While Woo is slipping Rory is charging. He has three birdies in the first seven holes of his final round and is at -2 for the tournament.
Lee's Birdie streak followed by four bogeys
The Min Woo Lee (+1) hot streak has cooled down since making the turn. He was six under on his final round after nine holes, but three straight bogeys has him back to over par for the tournament.
The lead is down to one!!!
Back-to-back birdies for Smith who came up just short of the ridge on the front edge of the second hole that would have led his second shot to within feet of the cup. His third left him with in Scheffler's birdie putt, which he would end up missing. With the line already laid out for him Smith drills the seven foot for his second birdie in the first two holes of the first round.
Tiger takes a bow
Tiger's Masters has come to an end after a remarkable return to professional golf. He walks off 18 with a smile from ear to ear after finishing his first round since his nearly catastrophic car accident just over a year ago. This Masters will go down as one of his most memorable, not for his score, but for what it means to him professionally and personally. He finishes the tournament at +13
Cam birdies #1
Smith means buisness from the start. The Aussie drops a birdie to begin his round after hitting his second shot into that seductive little ridge on the right side of the green. He sank his 13 foot right to left putt and is now two shots back of Scheffler who went up and down after overshooting the green on the first.

Min Woo Lee won't stop
When I warned you about Min Woo Lee about 45 minutes ago, we was just a guy on a hot streak but still far away from contention. A 30 on the front nine has changed that entirely. He finished the the first half of his final round with four straight birdies. He's at -2 going into the back nine.

Henry Higgs showing everyone how it's done on hole 2. He nearly holes out from 226 yards out. The key to the second is finding that ridge and letting it trickle down the hole.
Perfect Sunday at The Masters
The conditions couldn't be better for a Sunday at Augusta. The sun is shining, the greens are soft and the course is ready to be scored. Have a look at all that sun waiting for us the rest of the afternoon thanks to our friends at the Weather Channel.
We have already mentioned the second hole, but here are the holes that are going to make or break this Masters for many contenders. The 8th and 13th are there to be taken as well, but 4, 10 and 11 will be ones to be wary of.
Lee proving you can go low on Sunday in Augusta
If there's a secret to success for the contenders hoping to catch up to Scottie Scheffler, they might want to ask Min Woo Lee who has blazed through the first nine. He eagled the very approachable second hole and has gone birdie-birdie on his last two holes. He started the day at +4, so a run at the leaders will be tough, even if he stays at this pace, but bravo to the Aussie for a fantasitic show through the first seven holes of his round. Lee is back to E for the tournament.
Number two playing easy
So far number 2 is playing very favorable for the early pairings. There have been 18 birdies and 2 eagles already. The key is putting the approach shot in the right center of the green and let the hill do the rest. There is most certainly an eagle alert for the rest of the day on the second hole in Augusta.
Odds coming into last round at Augusta
Who will have their Master's moment today? The world's top ranked golfer is the out and out favorite carrying a lead into Sunday according the oddsmakers.
Scheffler is -225, Smith is +260, and Im is +1600.
Look out for Schwartzel, who is lagging behind at -2 coming into the final round. But the former Masters champion is +15000, and might be worth the
Back-to-back bid unlikely for Hideki
Last year's Masters champion, Hideki Matsuyama, has started his fourth round. He came into the day at +2 and parred the first hole. He was in the hunt going into Saturday, but a five-over 77 put him in a nearly impossible position coming into the final round.
Tiger's Masters coming to a close
Tiger Woods made his much anticipated return to professional golf this weekend, but if the third round showed us anything he is not quite ready to be challenging for major championships.
He gave us a glimpse of what could be to come in the first round with a one-under 71. His body began to show signs of overexertion. The third round was one to forget, shooting 78 after going four over on the final three holes.

Saturday recap
The world’s top ranked golfer is heading into Sunday at The Masters on top of the leaderboard from Augusta National. Scottie Scheffler shot a 71 in the third round to bring him into Sunday at -9.
Scheffler crept out to a commanding lead on Friday and maintained his cushion over the competition for the entirety of Saturday. The gold ranked player in the world started his round with two birdies in his first three holes.

There are a ton of groups still to tee off including the leader Scottie Scheffler (-9) and Cameron Smith (-6). Scheffler looked like he'd have a comfortable cushion coming into Sunday, but four bogeys in his final seven holes has given new life to the final round.

This isn't the year of the Tiger
Now tied for 41st place, its all but certain that Tiger Woods won't be claiming another Masters title this year. Woods of course was on the hunt for what would have been his 6th green jacket, which would have brought him level for the most in the tournament's history with the legendary Jack Nicklaus, but after posting a 6 over par 78, that won't be happening..
Indeed, though he must be commended for making his return to the sport after being involved in a severe car crash back on February 23rd, the reality is Woods turned in the worst round in his experience playing in the Masters and with that, looks likely to have to look towards next year.

Though wounded, the Tiger is still dangerous

Though he is a fair distance from the top of the leader board at #41, expect Woods to put in a solid showing in this the final round of play at Augusta.
