Tony Finau, one of the most talented golfers on the PGA Tour, is returning to Vidanta Vallarta this year to defend his title. He has been in excellent form since the tournament was introduced in 2022, having finished T2 and winning it. He has not missed a cut this season and achieved T19 last week at The Genesis Invitational, which indicates that he is in top form and is likely to perform well this year at the tournament.

Another player worth watching out for is Nicolai Højgaard, known for his consistent performance. He has made 13 consecutive cuts worldwide, including a win, two seconds, and a third. He finished 33rd at Vidanta Vallarta last year while earning his TOUR card via nonmember FedExCup points. This year, he is expected to put up an intense fight and compete against the best golfers in the world.

Emiliano Grillo is another player who has performed consistently well this season. He has made six out of six cuts on the season with four top-25s and is known for his strong finishes. He finished at T5 at Vidanta Vallarta last year and is expected to put up a great fight this year. Apart from these players, other golfers are worth watching out for. Thorbjorn Olesen, Robert McIntyre, and Thomas Detry are a few players who are expected to perform well and give tough competition to the other players.

After Round 1, the South African Eric Van Royen is leading 8 under on 63 total, followed by the American David Lipsky, the Swede Henrik Norlander, and the most pleasant surprise of the tournament so far, the Chilean Cristobal del Solar, with all three golfers scoring 6 under and with 65 total, at T2.
