The Saudis, interested in the Canelo vs Crawford mega fight for December or January

Although ‘Bud’ didn’t seem to be Alvarez’s most probable fight after the Munguia clash, the American is the best placed to face Canelo next.

Update:
Although ‘Bud’ didn’t seem to be Alvarez’s most probable fight after the Munguia clash, the American is the best placed to face Canelo next.

Canelo fought and defeated Jaime Munguia last Saturday night and only a few hours later his name is again in the spotlight.

The Guadalajara native could take on Terence Crawford next at super middleweight in a mega bout that would take place in the US next December or January, according to Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.

I’m working to deliver [Canelo], but it will be a big fight [for Crawford]. I’ll discuss with him the names”, Alalshikh said to ESPN.

Bud (40-0, 31 KOs) is scheduled to take on the WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov, in what will be the headliner in Alalshikh’s event, which will take place on August 3.

Canelo, Crawford’s biggest challenge

The three-weight class world champion and two-division undisputed king Crawford wants to keep making history despite his great career.

The Omaha-bred star wants to take on Canelo but to make that possible he will first need to defeat the younger and dangerous hard-hitting Madrimov in summer at 154 lbs.

Although Crawford is one of the most complete fighters that boxing has seen in recent history, the Canelo clash would easily be his biggest challenge so far.

The American would have to move up three weight classes to face Alvarez, which would require a big body transformation. Could Crawford feel comfortable and strong going from welterweight (147) to super middleweight (168)?

For a competitive fighter like Crawford, it’s probably worth it, especially considering he would be fighting for Canelo’s four belts. The worst that could happen to him is losing his undefeated status. However, there’s no big reward without big risk, and Crawford probably thinks that the possibility of taking all the marbles at super middleweight is even bigger than leaving the sport as an undefeated boxer.
