The German world No. 3 is competing down under in the Australian Open and his partner is likely to be in the crowd.

Who is Alexander Zverev dating? This is the tennis player’s longtime actress/model girlfriend Sophia Thomalla
Alexander Zverev won his first round match in Melbourne agains Canadian Gabriel Diallo 6-7, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. “He’s very young and talented and unbelievably aggressive,” Zverev said of his opponent. “It was difficult to find a rhythm and the first set was not my best tennis, but once I got into the match I felt good on the court.”
The 28-year-old German is currently ranked third early in 2026 and he is considered one of the favorites for this year’s competition. Taking to the court in Melbourne, Zverev will likely be cheered on by his girlfriend, the model/actress Sophia Thomalla.
The couple have been together since 2020 and Thomalla regularly posts about the tennis star in her social media accounts. Speaking about their relationship, Zverev revealed that she has helped him to play more calmly.
“I think for tennis players it is always very important who you have next to you. Sophia is someone who gives me peace and security,” Zverev said in an interview with a German tennis magazine. “I play extremely well with her behind me and I hope that will continue to be the case next year and maybe even better. I haven’t achieved all of my goals yet.”
Born in East Berlin in 1989, both of Thomalla’s parents are actors. She grew up in Berlin, Cologne, Kleinmachnow and Gelsenkirchen, eventually returning to the capital as an adult.
She pursued a career in show business and has worked as an actress and television presenter, as well as a model. She starred in a German adaptation of dating show ‘Are Your the One?’ and has also appeared in a number of film and television projects.
Thomalla was previously married to Norwegian singer Andy LaPlegua but they announced their divorce in May 2017. She was later romantically linked with Gavin Rossdale, the lead singer of British rock band Bush. Reports at the time claimed that they had been dating for around a year before eventually splitting up. She was also linked with former Liverpool FC goalkeeper Lloris Karius.
Now, Thomalla is most regularly seen in the crowd at her partner’s matches and she is a vocal supporter. She was also a big part Zverev’s storyline in the Netflix documentary series ‘Break Point’, which followed his recovery from an ankle injury in 2022.
