After spending the first two weeks of 2025 in Hawaii, following the Sentry and the Sony Open tournaments, the traditional year-opening tournaments, the PGA Tour is returning to the North American continent, hosting its event with the American Express tournament.

This uncommon event will see the golfers, as usual, compete across three courses: Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West, La Quinta Country Club, and the Stadium Course at PGA West.

The cut will take place after Saturday’s round, with the top players advancing to play at the Stadium Course on Sunday for the final round.

Who will start the golfing season with a bang?

Hideki Matsuyama (Japan) at the Sentry and Nick Taylor (Canada) are the two hot golfers in 2025. Following their wins at the Hawaii islands, only the Canadian Taylor will be present on the 156 golfer’s list, which was mered by the fires situation in California. By the way, the organizers didn’t announce any cancelation or event obstruction by the fires happening almost 200 miles west of the venue.

There’s a long list of cancellations, but the most resonating are those from the world’s number one, Scottie Scheffler, for an apparent holiday hand injury and the most recent one from the world’s number two, Xander Schauffele, who came on Monday without any plausible explanation. Nevertheless, 10 of the 30 top players will be present in Riverside County.

Amog those top players scheduled to compete include Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel, Justin Thomas, and Tom Kim.

World No. 3 Rory McIlroy is traditionally participating alongside some of the best European golfers in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, along with Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre, and the American Akshay Bhatia, who chose this tournament as preparation for the next signature event at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am that comes in two weeks.
