Three overtimes and two comebacks in the NHL playoffs night to remember
Two games were played the previous night in the postseason fight for the Stanley Cup, and both ended in extra time.
The New York Rangers faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes in the second game of the East semi-final series. The Rangers were playing at home while the Hurricanes were visiting. The game was a nail-biter, with the Rangers forcing the first and second overtime. Ultimately, the Rangers secured a 4-3 victory over the Hurricanes, with a goal that solved the game’s drama.
Vincent Trocheck scored the decisive goal, and when asked about the details of the stormy celebration of the “golden goal,” he admitted that he had no idea and would have to look at the video to answer the question. This was the Rangers’ 28th “comeback” this season, the best in the NHL and the third in the playoffs.
The Rangers are now on a six-game winning streak in the playoffs following their sweep of the Washington Capitals in the first round. Their performance in the playoffs is impressive, and they have been dominating their opponents. On the other hand, the Hurricanes are now down 0-2 and will need to win the next game to keep their hopes of making it to America’s biggest city alive.
At the West...
Several thousand kilometers to the west, Miles Woods scored the winning goal in the first overtime, securing the Colorado Avalanche’s spot in the opening semi-final series against the Dallas Stars. The final score was 3:4, 3:3 (3:0, 0:2, 0:1), with the Avalanche making a remarkable comeback after being down three points in the first period.
After the match, Woods praised his teammate, Andrew Cogliano, for his excellent move, which set up the goal. Cogliano had the opportunity to score himself but passed the puck to Woods, who found himself in the perfect position to score. “He saw Woods out of the corner of his eye calmly skating through their defense,” Woods said. “When Woody gets going like that, it’s hard to stop him. He’s fast and powerful, so it wasn’t difficult for him to put the puck where it needed to be.”
Colorado coach Jared Bednar was thrilled with the team’s performance, especially Cale Makar’s contribution. Makar was the game’s best player, recording an assist and two goals and playing a crucial role in the Avalanche’s comeback in the second and third periods.
