Both Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway made weight, both weighing in at 145 pounds, the morning before UFC 308 with the fight being the first chapter as Topuria prepares to defend his featherweight belt.
Saturday, 26 October, the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi will host one of the most anticipated fights of the year, and also one of the most competitive with little to choose between both combatants.
In the press room for the official weigh-in, there was a high level of expectation, and ahead of the event, Topuria’s physical trainer, Aldo Martínez, already revealed to AS that yesterday that his fighter was at “the best weight of his sporting life.”
Volkanovski, next in line?
Alexander Volkanovski was also at the weigh-in room at the training camp hotel doing interviews and. The Australian, former featherweight champion and possible next rival for tomorrow’s winner was anxious not to miss a single minute ahead of UFC 308.
First to step onto the scales was Ilia Topuria, the champion. The Spanish-Georgian came out oozing the confidence and the self-assurance we’ve come to expect from him as he removed his brown tracksuit and stepped onto the scales, weighing 145 pounds (65.8 kilos). Holloway stepped in behind him wearing nothing but his underwear, and gave the same weight and in that moment, Saturday’s fight was on.
Topuria bullish
Speaking in the pre-fight press conference, Topuria was oozing with confidence, claiming: ‘The victory is going to be in the first round. I’m telling you, he’s not going to take the pressure I’m going to put him under. He says I copy other fighters, but he’s the one who wants to be like me. He wants to be the champion, he wants to be in my place’, adding, ‘this will be the quickest KO in history and I’ll tear his fucking head off’.
