Boxing greats Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are poised to meet in an exhibition bout next year.
Two boxing legends are set to step into the ring together for the first time, after it was announced that Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have agreed to face off in an exhibition bout in spring 2026.
Organized by the promoters CSI Sports and Fight Sports, the fight between the two former world champions is to take place “on a date and from a location to be determined”, a press release said on Thursday.

When were Tyson and Mayweather’s last fights?
A former undisputed heavyweight champion, Tyson retired with a 50-6 professional record in 2005, before returning for his first pro fight in two decades last November, against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
In a clash that broke streaming records, “Iron Mike” underwhelmed in a unanimous-decision defeat to Paul.
Mayweather, a winner of world titles across five weight classes, last donned his gloves for a non-scored exhibition fight against John Gotti III in August 2024.
A fighter with a 50-0 professional record, Mayweather’s most recent pro bout was a technical-knockout victory over UFC star Conor McGregor in 2017.

Alongside the date and venue of Tyson vs Mayweather, the number of the rounds in the bout is yet to be specified, as is their duration. Organizers are likewise still to confirm the weight limits imposed on the fighters.
What’s the weight difference betwen Tyson and Mayweather? What about age?
There is a clear difference in weight between Tyson, who competed as a heavyweight throughout his professional career, and Mayweather, who was most recently a world champion at welterweight, six divisions lower.
Per ESPN, Tyson weighed in at 228.4 pounds before last year’s fight against Paul, while Mayweather came in at 160.8 pounds ahead of his matchup with Gotti.
There is also an evident age gap between Tyson and Mayweather: at 59, the former is just over a decade older than his 48-year-old opponent. That said, the pair are significantly closer in age than Tyson and Paul; indeed, the latter took a whopping 31-year age advantage into November’s bout in Arlington, Texas.

“I’ve been doing this for 30 years and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy,” Mayweather told Thursday’s press release.
“You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”
Tyson, meanwhile, said: “When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather. I thought, ‘No way this happens,’ but Floyd said yes.
“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable - and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets. I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”
