Your 2023 US Open Champion is Wyndham Clark, after an even par 70 to finish the tournament at -10 from LACC.
Ricky Fowler was witness to Clark's major winning round, and had this to say to the Colorado native after the 18th. Clark lost his mother when he was 19, and was visibly emotional after wrapping up his first win.
He said he had to play cocky before the tournament, and he took that into the post round interview. With that medal around his neck, he can be as cocky as he wants.
It has been a long road for Wyndham Clark, but the 29 year old is playing the best golf of his life. After his first Tour win back in May, he is now a major champion.
He would miss his approach on 17 to the left of the green, but still went up and down for par and on 18 his drive just held on to the right side of the fairway and an icy second shot put him on the dancing floor for a two putt birdie to win the 123rd US Open, and his first major championship.
It would be far from smooth sailing for Clark to end his round, going bogey-bogey on 15 and 16 to go into the final holes with just a one shot lead.
With the rest of the pack falling behind, it was Clark who came up with one of the shots of the day on 14. He split the green front bunkers and bounced it on to the green with his second shot for a two putt birdie.
Clark made shots like this look routine even after getting himself into dangerous positions. He missed the Green on the Par 3 11th, but almost cupped it for birdie.
Things got a little shaky for Clark on 8, when he hit his shot into the thick feskew and took a hack and missed the ball completely. His second shot went over the green and into the rough but a cool up and down to save bogey might have saved his round.
It was Clark's short game that bailed him out time and time again in a round in which he would play far from perfect golf. This birdie on 6 could have very easily turned into a bogey.
Threre weren't many hitting shots like these late in the day. The course at LACC played tough, but Clark played with all sorts of confidence and told reporters he was going to come into this week and "play cocky." That's exactly what he did even on Sunday when all the pressure in the world was rested on his shoulders.
Wyndham got started with a birdie on the opening hole, but despite the quick start things would not be as easy for the first time major champion.
After bogeys on 15 and 16, Clark finished Sunday with two straight pars to win his first major at the age of 29.
You're 123rd US Open Champion: Wyndham Clark!
