Usyk underestimates Canelo: what did the Ukrainian say about Saul Alvarez?

Update:
‘The Cat’ became the undisputed world heavyweight champion two weeks ago, when he defeated Tyson Fury on points in Saudi Arabia.

Saul Alvarez has been in the sport of boxing for many years and during this time he has cemented himself as one of the best boxers in recent years and has been world champion in multiple weight divisions.

He’s considered by many as the face of boxing, as he has fought some of the best names and defeated almost all of them. However, not everybody agrees with that status, and Oleksandr Usyk is one of them.

Despite Canelo’s accomplishments, the undisputed heavyweight champion -the only one to unify all the marbles in the four-belt era after beating Tyson Fury-, believes that Alvarez is not the biggest star in boxing.

After outpointing The Gipsy King in the ring, he didn’t bite his tongue when asked about the Mexican boxer.

What did Usyk say about Canelo?

Due to his impressive career and personality outside the ring, the Ukrainian is now one of the most famous fighters.

However, in an interview for Title Sports Network, Usyk talked about Alvarez and expressed that Eddy Reynoso’s best boxer is not the face of boxing globally.

“Canelo (Alvarez) says he is the face of boxing... he’s not in Ukraine, he’s not in Saudi Arabia, he’s not in Europe. Maybe in Mexico, he is the face of boxing”, Usyk said.

He also admitted Canelo is a great boxer, adding some irony to his words.

“I like Canelo because he’s a strong man, a good boxer, but from that to being the face of boxing... It’s fine, he is”.

Usyk will step in the ring again on December 21, when he will take on Fury in a rematch that promises to be another clash for the ages with all the belts on the line.
