Vasyl Lomachenko returns from the war to fight for MSG

Ukrainian Vasiliy Lomachenko will fight for the first time in almost a year against American Jaimaine Ortiz on October 29 at the Hulu Theater in New York.

Vasyl Lomachenko (16-2) has not fought in more than 10 months due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but will return to the ring in two months to face American Jamaine Ortiz (16-0-1).

Lomachenko to return to the ring in fall

According to BoxingScene.com, Lomachenko will face Ortiz in the lightweight category on October 29 at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden as the feature fight on the card.

The fight was rescheduled after the Artur Beterbiev and Anthony Yarde was postponed last week. Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports was the first to report the exact date of the Lomachenko-Ortiz fight.

Since the invasion of Ukrainian territory began, Lomachenko has been part of the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky Territorial Defense Battalion.

Who is Jamaine Ortiz?

Ortiz, nicknamed ‘The Technician,’ and is one of the top emerging 135-pound boxers. Of his 16 wins, eight have come by knock outs. His most recent win was against Jamel Herring, by unanimous decision, at Resorts World in Las Vegas, where he won the IBF title in the USBA version of lightweight.

On February 23, 2019, Ortiz won the WBC junior lightweight belt by defeating his countryman Ricardo Quiroz and later that year he won the intercontinental junior title of super lightweight after beating Frenchman Romain Couture.
