After Team USA’s impressive 4 - 0 blanking of Europe on Friday morning, things have been up and down for the Americans. They finished Friday afternoon 5 - 3 after the Europeans battled back to win 3 matches with a hole-in-one included. Team Europe turned on the heat and they started sinking putts from all over to storm back into contention.

Saturday morning and afternoon matches

Saturday morning’s foursome matches were back and forth, up and down with many lead changes at Finca Cortesin. When the dust cleared the two teams split points and the scoreboard read 7 - 5 in favor of Team USA.

But the Europeans dominated fourball play Saturday afternoon. The scoreboard was all blue for most of the afternoon. Leona Maguire from Ireland led the charge with her fourball teammate Charley Hull. There was no doubt from start to finish in their match against the American ace Nelly Korda and one of Ally Ewing, one of Stacy Lewis’ captains picks.

US Captain Stacy Lewis would have been thrilled to go into Sunday’s single matches with a 2-shot lead to try to bring the Solheim Cup back to the US for the 11th time, but they couldn’t hold back the European charge. The scoreboard is all even going into Sunday’s single matches: USA 8 - Europe 8. The Europeans brought intensity and played to the crowds at Finca Cortesin. They will have the “home field” advantage on Sunday. Although the Americans are traditionally stronger on Sunday, the European team is proving on the course why they were the favorites on paper coming into the 2023 Solheim Cup.
