Poland’s Iga Swiatek won the GNP Seguros WTA Finals Cancun title by defeating Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-1 and 6-0. With this win, she secured the year-end No.1 ranking for the second consecutive season, surpassing Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek expressed her joy, saying that becoming world No.1 again was a dream come true and that she wasn’t expecting it this season. She also said hard work and focusing on the right things paid off.

After losing in the US Open’s Round of 16, Swiatek has been in great form. She has won 12 of 13 matches, including 11 straight, and won titles in Beijing and Cancun. During this period, she lost only one set, giving her a success rate of 95.2%. Swiatek won 71.2% of her games, saved 11 of 24 break-point opportunities, and converted 54 of 92.

Swiatek’s win in Cancun was the most dominant run to the WTA Finals title since the round-robin format was reintroduced in 2003, as she lost just 20 games. Serena Williams held the previous record, conceding 32 games in 2012.

Women’s Tennis Rankings

In the latest women’s tennis rankings, Swiatek is the world’s number one player, amassing 9295 points. Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus occupies the second position, securing 9050 points. Coco Gauff from the United States stands at the third spot with 6580 points. Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan occupies the fourth spot, and Jessica Pegula from the United States takes the fifth position. Ons Jabeur from Tunisia holds the sixth spot, and Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic comes in at seventh place. Karolina Muchova, also from the Czech Republic, is in the eighth position, while Greece’s Maria Sakkari secures the ninth spot.
