What is Caitlin Clark’s handicap? The Indiana Fever basketball star claims to be just an “average golfer”
The WNBA star is participating in the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic Pro-Am just one week after taking part in The Annika.
Caitlin Clark’s debut season in the WNBA was ended when her Indiana Fever were eliminated by the Connecticut Sun in the first round of the playoffs. But she hasn’t been putting her feet up in the offseason, instead she’s been taking part in pro-am golf tournaments.
Last week she was at the LPGA Pro-Am at Pelican Golf Course and is now in action at the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic Pro-Am.
Clark is a keen golfer and joked about turning professional after Indiana’s playoff elimination earlier this year. She plays off a very respectable handicap of 16 but nearly had a major incident while teeing off at The Annika last week.
Caitlin Clark nearly hits fan with botched tee shot
The 22-year-old was competing in the Pro-Am section of the LPGA Pro-Am at Pelican Golf Course last week. The annual competition is affectionately known as The Annika, in honour of tournament host Annika Sorenstam.
Clark badly hooked a tee shot and scooped the ball towards a wall of spectators, some of whom were barely five yards away. Fortunately, Clark managed to make enough of a connection to chip the ball over the crowd, avoiding a potentially serious injury.
In typically nonchalant style, she followed that up by pulling a second ball from her pocket and launching a clean drive straight down the fairway. Strangely enough, Clark had previously predicted that she might run in to some issues on the course.
“I’ve tried to practice as much as I can,” Clark said ahead of the event. “I’m just an average golfer. I’m going to hit some good, going to hit some bad. It is what it is, I’m just trying not to hit anyone standing outside the ropes.”
