Carlos Alcaraz once again beat Novak Djokovic in the 2024 Wimbledon men’s singles final, triumphing in straight sets this time around after the pair’s near five-hour, five-set classic on Centre Court 12 months earlier.
How many times have Alcaraz and Djokovic played each other?
The Spaniard retaining his title means he has drawn level with the 37-year-old, who has won more Grand Slam titles than any other male player, in head-to-head matches between the two.
Alcaraz, 16 years Djokovic’s junior, has now faced the veteran on six occasions during his career, winning three times and losing three times.
Alcaraz vs Djokovic: previous meetings
The 21-year-old won the first ever meeting between the pair in the semifinals of 2022 Madrid Open, coming from behind to win on clay in three sets and reach the final, where he defeated Alexander Zverev.
Djokovic had to wait more than a year to gain his revenge, triumphing in four sets in the last four of the French Open at Roland Garros in 2023. He closed out the game by winning each of the last two sets 6-1, before beating Casper Ruud in the final.
Then came Alcaraz’s epic 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory in last year’s Wimbledon final, the Spaniard’s most recent victory against the 24-time Grand Slam champion and the only time they have faced each other on grass.
Before Sunday’'s match-up, “Nole” had won the previous two meetings between the pair, seeing off Alcaraz in three sets to win the 2023 Cincinnati Open and in two in the semifinals of last year’s ATP Finals, which he won by defeating Jannik Sinner in the final.
