Among his many nicknames, one sums up Floyd Mayweather Jr. to a tee - ‘Money’. It’s as though he can’t get enough of the stuff. Opulence has been a big part of his life practically since the day he turned pro in October 1996. Born in Michigan and resident in Las Vegas, the 45-year-old remains undefeated after retiring for the third time in 2017 with a career record of 50-0-0.

During that time, he has accumulated a vast amount of wealth - cash prizes and sponsorship deals from fights, but he has also known how to take care of his fortune and has made quite a few investments. And Mayweather has never been reticent about showing off his fortunes, regularly posting photos and videos to social media of him and his millions.

Mayweather, who is also nicknamed ‘Pretty Boy’ and ‘TBE’ (The Best Ever), is the 5th highest-paid athlete of all time and one of just seven athletes whose total career earnings have topped $1 billion. He joins Michael Schumacher ($1 billion), Jack Nicklaus ($1.15 billion), Arnold Palmer ($1.35 billion), Tiger Woods ($1.65 billion), Michael Jordan ($1.9 billion) and more recently, LeBron James, who hit ten digits last year, becoming the first NBA player to top the billion mark while still playing.

How much money does Mayweather have in his bank account?

Floyd Mayweather’s net worth is estimated to be somewhere between $450-$560 million, depending on which source you believe, although last summer he claimed he is worth $1.2 billion. He told the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, “I’ve made a billion. I reached that four years ago - now I’m over $1.2 billion. I would rather have the currency than the legacy, my legacy is already engraved in stone. I knew from the beginning I was the best in boxing, from day one. They say, Mayweather’s doing exhibitions, it’s bad for boxing... At the end of the day, my mother’s a millionaire, my dad’s a millionaire, my children are millionaires. My little [five-month-old] grandson is a multi-millionaire and he don’t even know it.”

He was paid just $100,000 dollars for his pro debut against Roberto Apodaca - a bout that didn’t even last two rounds. Within a few years, he began commanding seven-figure payouts. He earned $3.2 million for facing Arturo Gatti in Atlantic City in 2005. Then he slowly increased his savings by getting $20, $25, $40 million when fighting elite boxers such as Ricky Hatton, Óscar de la Hoya and Juan Manuel Márquez.

But when it comes down to money and huge paydays, there are two events that deserve special mention - the Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor exhibition fights.

In 2015 Mayweather faced the ‘Pac-Man’ in what probably was the most anticipated fight in a decade. The American emerged victorious via unanimous decision and pocketed $250 million. Almost two years later, Mayweather starred in another huge event. This time not against a boxer, but a mixed martial artist, the UFC superstar Conor McGregor, whose particular style of fighting centers on boxing. ‘Money’ won the fight via TKO and took home $300 million.
