There have been no shortage of shocks from the opening two days of play at the 2024 RSM Classic at Sea Island Golf Club.

Michael Thorbjornsen bounced back from recent knee surgery to post an 8-under 64 on the first round at the Plantation Course and share the lead with fellow American Maverick McNealy.

There was disappointment for reigning champion Ludvig Aberg, the world No. 5, who shot a 3-over 73 on the first day of play. His swing looked strong, despite playing in a knee brace, but his short game left a lot to be desired as he looks to claw his way back into contention.

It was hard. Obviously, it was a rough day,” Aberg said after Thursday’s play. “It was a lot of rust I felt like, but I also felt like the good was pretty good but the bad was really bad. A little bit of everything today, but all in all, pretty happy to be back playing golf again.”

What is the cut line at the RSM Classic?

Play is still ongoing on day two at Sea Island Golf Club but there are already some big names in danger of missing out on the weekend action. As of 10:45am ET on Friday morning, the cut line is currently 1-under par.

An early exit for Aberg would be the big shock of the tournament, especially considering that he equalled the PGA Tour 72-hole record at last year’s RSM Classic. He is currently on the cut line at 1-under par.

The golfers on the bubble are the ones we’re really interested in today as their future on the PGA Tour could be in jeopardy. Fan favorite Joel Dahmen is currently No. 124 on the PGA Tour FedEx Cup rankings and has made it into the weekend to continue to fight to keep his tour status. He finished 1-under par and on the cut line. Right there with him on the list is YouTuber Wesley Bryan (125), finished at 1-over par for the tournament despite starting the day at -2. A bogey on 13 and a double on 14 are making things complicated for the internet star. He got it back to even for the tournament with a birdie on 15, but the roller coaster continued on 16 with a bogey and he couldn’t do better than par on 17 and 18.

Finally, World Golf Hall of Fame member Davis Love III is far out of contention after shooting 10-over on day one. He is only in the field due to his number of career victories and he is now the host of the PGA Tour tournament.
