After an impressive opening day for Canada’s Adam Svensson who fired an 11-under-par 60 to grab a two-stroke lead in the first round of the inaugural Black Desert Championship on Thursday in Ivins, Utah, Day 2 was not so kind to the Canadian as he fired a round of 69 and, as things stand, still leads the way on (-13) ahead of Harris English who shot a second round of 64.

English is tied in second spot along with Sam Ryder and Henrik Norlander with all three players (-12).

Svensson, 30, entered the week No. 76 in the FedEx Cup Fall standings. If he finishes the fall in the 51-60 range, he will qualify for the first two signature events of 2025, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational.

The previous best previous round of his career was a 61, which he had done twice. Svensson is looking to add to his lone career PGA Tour win, which came at the 2022 RSM Classic.

Regarding his plan for Saturday, he said, “Just kind of feel like I didn’t shoot 60 yesterday and just kind of keep plugging along. The fairways are fairly easy to hit out here, so you just kind of have to put your approach shots near the hole and give yourself some looks.”

Projected cut at Black Desert Championship

With a handful of players still on course completing their second round, as things stand, the projected cut line is four under par. Data Golf gives that figure a 38.5% chance of being the final cut when the round is complete. An alternative cut line is five under, which has a 30.2% chance of being the definitive final cut.

Players such as Hayden Springer, Dylan Wu, Daniel Berger and Ben Taylor will be packing their bags along with several others and bidding farewell to the Utah links as the remainder of the field head into the final two days of competition.
