We are just a few hours away from one of the most anticipated boxing matches in recent history.

The AT&T Stadium in Texas, United States, will host the much-awaited return of Mike Tyson (50-6-0, 44 KOs) to the ring. At 58 years old, Tyson has shown remarkable strength and resilience, thanks to an impressive training regimen. He will face YouTuber Jake Paul (10-1-0, 7 KOs) in a showdown set for this November 15.

Weight difference between Tyson and Paul

During the weigh-in ceremony, all the fighters on the card successfully made weight. However, the main event face-off between Tyson and Paul turned heated. Tempers flared when “Iron Mike” slapped the social media star after Paul stepped on his right foot, prompting an immediate reaction.

Jake Paul weighed in at 227.2 pounds, while Mike Tyson tipped the scales at 228.4 pounds, creating a weight difference of just 1.2 pounds (approximately 0.54 kilograms). Since both fighters surpassed the 200-pound mark, they qualify for the Heavyweight division.

Governing bodies and weight categories in boxing

Professional boxing is overseen by four main governing bodies:

  1. World Boxing Association (WBA)
  2. World Boxing Council (WBC)
  3. International Boxing Federation (IBF)
  4. World Boxing Organization (WBO)

Of these, three organizations recognize 17 weight classes, while the WBC includes an additional division, bringing their total to 18.

Historically, professional boxing featured eight traditional weight classes:

  • Heavyweight
  • Light Heavyweight
  • Middleweight
  • Welterweight
  • Lightweight
  • Featherweight
  • Bantamweight
  • Flyweight

To accommodate fighters who struggled to make weight in these divisions, intermediate weight classes were later introduced, expanding the number of categories in modern boxing.

Weight ranges for each class:

  • Minimum or Mini Flyweight: 47.63 kg or 105 lbs.
  • Minimum Weight: 48.99 kg or 108 lb
  • Flyweight: 50.80 kg or 112 lbs.
  • Super Flyweight or Junior Rooster Weight: 52.16 kg or 115 lb
  • Bantamweight: 53.42 kg or 118 lbs.
  • Super Bantamweight or Junior Featherweight: 55.34 kg or 122 lbs.
  • Featherweight: 57.15 kg or 126 lbs.
  • Super Featherweight or Junior Lightweight: 58.97 kg or 130 lbs.
  • Lightweight: 61.23 kg or 135 lbs.
  • Super Lightweight or Junior Welterweight: 63.50 kg or 140 lbs.
  • Welterweight: 66.68 kg or 147 lbs.
  • Super Welterweight or Junior Middleweight: 69.85 kg or 154 lbs.
  • Middleweight: 72.58 kg or 160 lbs.
  • Super Middleweight: 76.20 kg or 168 lbs.
  • Semi-Complete Weight: 79.38 kg or 175 lbs.
  • Cruiser Weight: 90.71 kg or 200 lb
