With the 2023 Ryder Cup mere weeks away, Team Europe is set to host Team USA in Rome with aspirations of reclaiming victory. The memory of the Americans’ dominating performance at Whistling Straits in 2021, where they clinched a 19-9 win, lingers as the largest margin of triumph in a Ryder Cup since 1967.

Where is the 2023 Ryder Cup?

The tournament will take place at Rome’s Marco Simone Golf and Country Club from September 29 to Sunday, October 1.

The Championship Course is set as a par 72 with a maximum yardage spanning 7,268 yards.

Redesigned in 2021, the undulating terrain prioritizes captivating match play holes. The inaugural hole showcases a monumental grandstand enveloping the tee box and stands as a 445-yard par 4.

From the 4th to the 9th hole, the intensity escalates, encompassing two par 3s, two shorter par 4s, and two attainable par 5s.

The concluding trio adheres to classical design principles - starting with a concise par 4, followed by a challenging par 3, and culminating in a lengthy par 5.

Spectators will enjoy panoramic vistas of the Eternal City, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Castle of Marco Simone, coupled with idyllic late Italian summer weather.

Ryder Cup 2023: The format

A total of 28 points are at stake during the Ryder Cup, with both teams vying to amass 14½ points to secure victory.

The competition spans three days, featuring three distinct formats - foursomes, fourballs, and singles matches.

Across Friday and Saturday, the schedule encompasses four foursomes (alternate shot) matches and four fourballs (better ball) matches, leading up to the grand finale of 12 singles matches on Sunday.

In instances where a match ends in a tie after 18 holes, both teams will receive half a point.

Should the tournament conclude with a 14-14 score, the team that triumphed in the prior edition will retain possession of the trophy.

While all players will participate in the singles matches, the pairs for the other contests will be determined by the respective team captains prior to each session.
