When could a possible Poirier versus Makhachev fight happen?

The UFC lightweight champion has accepted the challenge from ‘Diamond’ on social media. It seems likely that a title fight will take place in June.

Dustin Poirier silenced his critics in the past at UFC 299. He faced a tough opponent in Benoît Saint-Denis, who was considered the favorite due to his impressive record. Many experts had doubts about Poirier’s motivation, especially after his knockout loss to Gaethje, and his age was also viewed as a hindrance to his career.

However, Poirier proved them wrong by delivering a stunning knockout to Saint-Denis in the second round, unanimously declaring the night’s best fight.

Prior to the event, there were speculations about Poirier’s early retirement, as he had indicated an expiration date for his career.

However, his impressive victory in the event puts an end to such talks and brings him back to the headlines.

Makhachev, after Ramadan

Dustin Poirier, a professional American mixed martial artist, was enthusiastic and motivated after his epic victory. He didn’t waste any time and challenged the champion, Islam Makhachev, through social media by tweeting: “Islam in June” last night.

Islam Makhachev, the Dagestani champion who had already congratulated Dustin at the end of the fight, responded quickly and reposted the message from his possible rival with some sword emoticons and two hands closing a deal.

It seems that Dustin Poirier has intentionally chosen June to challenge Makhachev to a fight. Makhachev is currently fasting during Ramadan, and it is uncommon for MMA fighters to compete during this period. By scheduling the fight in June, Poirier will give enough time for Islam to recover and be in top shape for the fight.
