When does Taylor Fritz play next at the French Open 2024? Opponent, date and time
Seeded 12th at Roland Garros this year, Fritz is through to the fourth round in Paris after beating Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis.
The last American left in the 2024 French Open men’s singles tournament, Taylor Fritz now faces two-time runner-up Casper Ruud after outlasting Thanasi Kokkinakis in a five-set thriller this weekend.
Fritz into French Open fourth round for first time
Kokkinakis recovered from two sets down to level the pair’s third-round clash at Roland Garros on Saturday, but Fritz survived the Australian’s fightback, winning the deciding set 6-3 to reach the tournament’s second week for the first time in his career.
The 26-year-old, who is the No. 12 seed in Paris, is the first US man to reach the fourth round at the French Open since Sebastian Korda in 2020. There were as many as four Americans in this year’s third round, but Korda, Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton all failed to reach the last 16.
“It’s a huge relief to get to this point, because it’s something that I wanted a lot,” Fritz said after a win that was his 13th in his last 17 singles games on clay. The sequence of results saw him make the semi-finals of the Madrid Open and the quarter-finals of the Italian Open - both also firsts for the 26-year-old.
Meanwhile, Ruud qualified for the fourth round with a four-set win over Argentina’s Tomás Martín Etcheverry, prevailing 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Seeded seventh in the French capital, the Norwegian is through to the fourth round at Roland Garros for the third year in a row - and is aiming to go one better than in 2022 and 2023, when he was beaten in the final. Ruud was runner-up to 14-time French open winner Rafael Nadal two years ago, before Novak Djokovic secured his third Coupe des Mousquetaires by defeating the 25-year-old in last season’s championship game.
