The US will try to win the Davis Cup, but when was the last time the Americans lifted the trophy?

One of the most iconic and oldest tennis competitions, the Davis Cup, is back after the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open.

The best players have gathered with the remaining 16 national teams to try to advance to the prestigious event’s finals, which will take place from 21st to 26th November.

The United States managed to come out on top against Croatia in Bob Bryan’s first tie as the team’s captain with a thrilling 2-1 win over the Europeans.

Mackenzie McDonald won the first point by defeating Dino Prizmic in straight sets, while Borna Gojo pulled off the upset by beating Francis Tiafoe.

The doubles team gave the US the victory, as world No. 1 Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram proved to be too consistent for the consistent duo Mate Pavic-Ivan Dodig.

The last time the USA became the Davis Cup champs

The Americans got the ticket to the 2023 Davis Cup Finals Group Stage -which takes place on 12-17 September- after a 4-0 win over Uzbekistan in the February qualifying round in Tashkent.

Bob Bryan nos hopes to keep getting good results against Finland and the Netherlands on Friday and Saturday in Split, Croatia, to be able to feature in November’s Davis Cup Final 8, where the champ will be decided in Málaga, Spain.

The last time they went all the way and became champions was back in 2007, when Andy Roddick, James Blake, Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan ended up winning the title against Russia. The Americans came out on top 4-1 in the Finals.

The USA are the most successful nation in the competition, having won the title on 32 occasions, also holding the record for most consecutive victories, having recorded 17 wins with no defeat between 1968 and 1973.
