When was the last time Tiger Woods missed the cut at the US Open?
Tiger Woods started Thursday’s round with a birdie at Pinehurst No. 2, but has been struggling since. It’s early, but lets look at his recent record at the 3rd major of the year.
The three-time US Open champion hasn’t played in a US Open since 2020, when he missed the cut with a score of +10 after the first two rounds. He finished T21 in 2019 and missed the cut in 2018.
Woods has won 15 majors in his career, but hasn’t done so since 2019 when he surprised the golf world at the Masters Tournament, but before that his last win in a major was in 2008 at the US Open.
In 2015 he missed the cut at the US Open and didn’t play in 2014, 2016 or 2017 due to injuries. His victories at the US Open date back to 2008, 2002 and 2000. Tiger did finish T3 at Pinehurst in 1999, two shots behind Payne Stewart, but that was 25 years ago.
The 48-year old is three majors behind the Golden Bear in that category and hasn’t won a major since 2019. The weather conditions shouldn’t hurt Tiger this week in North Carolina as temperatures should be in the 80s and 90s and no rain is expected. Despite his birdie on the first hole, Tiger has been struggling with the lightning fast greens at Pinehurst No. 2. His swing looks good and he seems to be walking better and showing less pain than in previous tournaments.
