When will Alcaraz return to competition? Will he play before the US Open?
The Spanish superstar is enjoying a well-deserved break after clinching silver in the Olympics, but when will he play again?
Carlos Alcaraz had some very intense weeks of work, competition, and emotions. The world No. 3 made history this year by winning two consecutive Grand Slam events, the French Open and Wimbledon, something only a few chosen players managed to do in tennis history.
But that wasn’t all. The Murcia native also wanted to reign supreme in the 2024 Olympic Games by winning the gold medal in the singles and doubles tournaments. Although his dream of becoming an Olympic champion alongside legendary Rafa Nadal came to an early close, his goal of clinching gold in the singles event was a real possibility until the end.
Alcaraz was very close to winning the gold for Spain, but Novak Djokovic played one of the best games of his career to defeat the 21-year-old talent in two tiebreaks. Alcaraz’s disappointment after the game contrasted with the Serb’s joy of finally accomplishing one of the biggest goals of his career, winning the gold at a Summer Games after four previous attempts.
When will Carlos Alcaraz play again?
Since the French Open, Carlitos’ agenda has been a non-stop schedule of training sessions and competitions. Given the massive amount of work he has dealt with since April and his impressive performances until the end of the Olympic tennis tournament, he’s now enjoying some time off with his friends in Mallorca.
Alcaraz needs a well-deserved rest to recover physically and to return to competition with the right mindset, especially after all the emotions he has been through in the majors and the Games.
But when will he return to competition again? Alcaraz and his main coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, decided the most appropriate was to withdraw from the National Bank Open in Montreal (6-12 August).
After having played on clay, hard, and grass courts, Charly will return to competition in the calendar’s second US tour, as he will participate in the Cincinnati Masters (12-19 August) before flying to New York to play in the fourth and last Grand Slam event of the year, the US Open.
