When will Djokovic play again? Will he compete before the US Open?
The Serb is enjoying some time off with his family after winning the Olympic gold medal, but when will he return to the courts?
Novak Djokovic has had an intense agenda over the last few months, where he had to deal with some mishaps.
The current world No. 2 had one of the worst starting campaigns of his career and suffered a series of fitness issues that didn’t allow him to play at his best.
He had to undergo a knee surgery after the French Open and while many believed he wouldn’t recover in time to feature in Wimbledon, the Serb managed to play in the third and most prestigious Grand Slam event of the calendar.
After losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the final at the All-England Club in straight sets, doubts regarding Djokovic’s form continued but the 24-time major champion beat the odds brilliantly in the 2024 Olympic Games, beating the Spaniard in the gold medal match in a very solid performance.
When will Djokovic return to the tennis courts?
Although Nole has accomplished everything in tennis, he will do no matter what to win his 25th Grand Slam title when all players meet at the US Open at the end of August in New York.
Differently from last year, Djokovic won’t play in Cincinnati. The Belgrade native recently confirmed he won’t feature in the tournament and will prepare for the US Open with a specific training regime.
Novak will lose 1,000 ATP points, as he’s the defending champion after his impressive win over Alcaraz in 2023. He also decided not to participate in the Montreal Masters, but he had no points to defend because he didn’t play it last year either.
Djokovic’s absence in Cincinnati means that if Alcaraz reaches the event’s round of 16, he will overtake the Serb in the ATP standings, grabbing the second spot, only behind Jannik Sinner, while Djokovic would fall to the No. 3 spot.
