The industry of sports betting has been very profitable over the last years, as there has been an increase of sports fans who invest in these platforms to try to get extra money or to try to make a living from it.
However, many people who start trying their luck by betting often see themselves being very attracted by the excitement that involves the idea of winning money, which may lead to addiction.
That’s the reason why sports betting is forbidden in many countries around the world. However, it’s a legal practice in many others, and in the case of the United States, gambling is allowed in some of its states.
Not long ago, though, sports betting was prohibited across the country. However, that changed when the Supreme Court struck down PASPA, the federal ban on sports betting, in 2018.
That decision allowed each of the 50 states to determine its own sports betting laws. Since then, almost every state has at least introduced a sports betting bill.

Currently, more than 30 states allow sports betting in some format, and the majority of them allow online sports gambling via either smartphone apps or websites.
In some states, though it’s only legal to bet in gambling establishments and not online.
