As we head into the final day of the 152nd Open at Royal Troon in Scotland, attention has already turned to where the prestigious tournament will be held in years to come. This, after all, is the second location in as many years

Xander Schauffele’s second & the future Open venues

Final round play at Royal Troon was intense but entertaining as the 2024 British Open came to a close. With Xander Schauffele enjoying a slim lead over the rest of the pack, throughout the day, he was finally able to put things to bed with a score of -9. Needless to say, the 2024 PGA Championship winner will be ecstatic having picked up the second major of his career, and one that is golf’s oldest tournament to boot. On that note, we come to the future of the tournament itself.

Nonetheless, that’s all about the players, but what many fans have already turned their attention to is the course itself. Namely, where will the British Open head to next? As we know, this year’s edition at Royal Troon Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland was a switch from last year’s tournament which was held at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Wirral in Merseyside, England.

That of course brings us to the location of the 153rd Open which is slated to be held at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in the summer of 2025. The club is of course located in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and is the home to the world-famous Dunluce Links, considered by fans and players alike to be one of the most challenging golf courses in the world.

Last but not least we have the 154th Open which will head to the Royal Birkdale Golf Club which is situated in Southport, England. Another Merseyside-based course, it has hosted the Open Championship on ten occasions in the past between 1954 and 2017. Many of golf’s biggest names have won here including the likes of Pádraig Harrington, Mark O’Meara, Ian Baker-Finch, Tom Watson, Johnny Miller, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer, Peter Thomson (twice), and Jordan Spieth. The tournament is set for July, 2026.
