Who are the six players who automatically qualified for the US Ryder Cup team?
Six players secured automatic spots on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, keeping Brooks Koepka out
After winning the PGA Championship, Brooks Koepka’s standing in the U.S. Ryder Cup points rankings dropped by two positions from fifth to seventh. This meant he was no longer among the top six players who automatically qualify for the 2023 team, set to compete in Rome next month after the BMW Championship.
Koepka, who has participated in the Ryder Cup three times before, had chances to earn points this year exclusively at major championships due to his involvement in the LIV Golf League. He began the year strongly with a second-place tie at the Masters in April, followed by an impressive victory at the PGA Championship in May held at Oak Hill. In June, he finished tied for 17th at the U.S. Open, and in the past month, he tied for 64th at the Open Championship.

The automatic selections for the U.S. team’s top six positions were secured by Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, and Xander Schauffele. Both Homa and Schauffele moved ahead of Koepka in the rankings following their performances at Olympia Fields, finishing T-7 and T-8, respectively.
