Who has qualified for the 2024 US Open so far? Former winners, amateurs, LIV golfers...
The field is now set for the 2024 US Open Championship, which will be held at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
The 156-man field for the 2024 US Open Championship, which takes place at Pinehurst Resort from Thursday, is now complete.
Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and Australia’s Adam Scott were today the final two golfers to gain exemptions from qualifying, rounding off a list of 84 exempted players. MacIntyre has sealed his place at the US Open as one of the top 60 golfers in the world, having risen from 76th to 39th in the Official World Golf Ranking thanks to his victory at the Canadian Open earlier in June. Scott, meanwhile, is ranked 61st but replaces the late Grayson Murray, who was ranked 59th. Murray died in late May, at the age of 30.
The remainder of the 2024 US Open field will be made up of players who took part in qualifying events in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Japan in May and June. The tournament’s line-up of qualifiers was rounded off today by the selection of four alternates from final qualifying: Sergio García, Brendan Valdes, Otto Black and Maxwell Moldovan. That quartet fills the four remaining US Open spots that were not taken up by exemptions.
How many amateurs, LIV Golfers will be at 2024 US Open?
Valdes is one of 16 amateurs who will be involved at Pinehurst this week, while García becomes the 13th LIV Golf player to secure a place at the third major tournament of the season. The 2017 Masters champion joins LIV colleagues Dean Burmester, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Eugenio López Chacarra, Tyrell Hatton, Adrian Meronk, Phil Mickelson, David Puig and Cameron Smith in North Carolina.
American Wyndham Clark will be the defending champion at the 2024 US Open, which will be the 124th edition of the event. Last year, Clark secured the first major title of his career when he finished one shot ahead of 2011 winner Rory McIlroy at Los Angeles Country Club.
