Young Polish tennis sensation Iga Swiatek has added another feather to her cap. The top-ranked women’s player trounced Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, 6-2, 6-1, to advance to the Italian Open final, and extended her winning streak to 27 matches.

Iga Swiatek joins list of all-time greats

With this figure, she equals the record of tennis legend Serena Williams who had the same number of consecutive wins from 2014 to 2015.

This is the fourth-longest winning run in the WTA this century. In this era. Venus Williams is first with 35 wins in 2000, Serena Williams sits at number two with 34 which she achieved in 2013, and Justine Henin holds the third position with 32 victories from 2007 to 2008.

Martina Navratilova’s stunning streak

Impressive as these statistics are, they do not come close to the all-time longest winning streak which was recorded by legendary Martina Navratilova, who tallied an unbelievable 74 straight victories.

She is followed closely by Sfeffi Graf, who was undefeated in 66 matches from 1989 to 1990. Her hot streak was ended by Monica Seles at the Berlin Final.

Navratilova also holds the third spot with 58 wins from 1986 to 1987.

Swiatek’s promising future

The 20-year-old Swiatek has a lot of time ahead of her to achieve more tennis records. She is on a seemingly unstoppable roll, already notching as many wins this year (36) as she did the whole of last year.

She will face either Ons Jabeur of Tunisia or Daria Kasatkina of Russia in the Italian Open finals to defend her title on Sunday. Swiatek is also gunning to win her fifth consecutive tournament.
