Who is golf’s number one after Bryson DeChambeau wins the 2024 US Open?

The former PGA TOUR and now LIV GOLF player, “The Scientist,” as his peers refer to him, has won his second career US Open and placed 10th on the GWR.

Bryson DeChambeau of the United States celebrates with the trophy as he is interviewed by NBC sportscaster Mike Tirico after winning the 124th U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort on June 16, 2024 in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Bryson once again confirmed his legendary status and talent after grabbing yesterday’s win at the U.S. Open. To make it more appreciated, it happened just one month after his tough loss in the final of the PGA Championship. To remind you, DeChambeau shot a final round 7-under par 64, which included a birdie on the 72nd hole, to tie leader Xander Schauffele. Schauffele then flew the 72nd hole himself to win by one stroke.

Yesterday, DeChambeau got up and down from 50 yards out of a bunker on the final hole to save par and win his second U.S. Open title, one stroke ahead of Rory McIlroy. McIlroy, who again reminded me of the career-best Rory from a couple of years ago, had the solo lead at 8-under with four holes remaining but made three bogeys on the final stretch, including missing a two-foot par putt on 16 and a three-foot par putt on 18.

Bryson also became the second LIV GOLF player after Brooks Koepka won his fifth PGA Championship in 2023 over Viktor Hovland. He also made a prophecy for the future, stating that many LIV Players would compete and win golf Majors in the future.

Although he had below par performance this weekend at the Pinehurst No. 2, finishing at T41 with an eight over score, Scottie Scheffler still dominates all three of the official golf rankings
