Who is Mikuru Asakura, Floyd Mayweather’s next rival?
Retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will once again step into the ring to go up against Mikuru Asakura. Here’s more on the Japanese MMA fighter.
Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. will have an exhibition fight at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan on Sunday at 11. pm. ET against Mikuru Asakura, but who exactly is his opponent?
Asakura is a 30-year-old mixed martial artist who has fought for the past ten years for various promotions. He has been a RINGS featherweight and lightweight champion. At the moment, the martial artist has a record of 16-3.
Early introduction to MMA
As a young man, Asakura was involved in sports, practicing karate and volleyball for a few years. Later, he and his brother Kai were introduced to the world of mixed martial arts when they were in high school.
His last fight was on December 31, 2021 and on that occasion he defeated Yutaka Saito by unanimous decision after fighting for three rounds. Asakura has been a part of RIZIN since 2018 and is 10-2 since then. His two losses were against Saito in 2020 and against Kleber koike Erbst in 2021.
The event will kick off at 2:00 p.m. ET, and ‘Money’ and Asakura are expected to be in the ring at 5:00 p.m. The fight can be seen through the RIZIN Stream Pass and on FITE TV. The fight is scheduled for three rounds.
