Following a triumphant performance at the British Open, the PGA Tour is set to journey to TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, MN, for the 3M Open tournament.

The 3M Open is the 42nd regular season event of the 2022-2023 PGA Tour. This four-day event is scheduled from Thursday, July 27, to Sunday, July 30. One hundred fifty-six players will compete for the $7.8 million prize purse. Although it is not an elevated event, some of the biggest names on the PGA Tour will be part of the 3M Open field, making it an exciting competition to follow. This event follows the final major championship of the year.

The TPC Twin Cities course is part of the PGA Tour’s Tournament Players Club network. Previously, it hosted the 3M Championship for the PGA Champions Tour starting in 2001. However, in 2018, it was announced that the 3M Open for the PGA Tour would replace the Champions Tour event in a seven-year agreement. The course was set up during the Champions Tour event to allow for low scoring with wide fairways, low rough, manageable bunkers, and accessible pin placements. This resulted in a birdie-filled competition known as the 3M Championship.

The upcoming 3M Open tournament in 2023 is quite interesting, and the 3M Open picks reflect that. Last year, Tony Finau emerged as the winner, and this year, we expect Justin Thomas will do his best to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs, with only two tournaments remaining and a limited field of 70 players. Meanwhile, Cameron Young and other players hope to improve their performance, and Ludvig Aberg, Eric Cole, and others aim to make a breakthrough.

2023 3M Open field

The most notable outsider heading into the week is two-time major winner Justin Thomas, who’s been in a dry spell this summer but enters the week among the favorites at 20/1. The PGA Tour’s 2023 3M Open field will have 11 top 50 Official World Golf Ranking ranked players among the top contenders. World No. 19 Tony Finau is the defending champion. He will be joined by Justin Thomas, Sepp Straka, Hideki Matsuyama, and more.

Unfortunately for golfing enthusiasts, some notable names such as Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Scottie Scheffler will not participate in the event this weekend. However, the highest-rated player of the weekend will be World No. 15, Cameron Young.

2023 3M Open predictions

One golfer to keep an eye on is Emiliano Grillo at 25/1. The Argentinian has a solid track record at TPC Twin Cities, finishing third in 2020 and second last year. He’s having a great season, with six top 10 finishes and nine top 25 finishes, including a win in the Charles Schwab Challenge in May. Additionally, he impressed with a T6 finish in last week’s Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. His stats support his impressive performance, as he’s ranked 10th in this week’s Stats Analysis. As a seasoned pro, his recent good form and experience bode well for his chances.
