The 2024 Amgen Irish Open is expected to be an incredible golfing event with a lineup of impressive players like we didn’t have in Ireland for years. One of the confirmed participants is Shane Lowry, a local favorite and the 2019 Open Champion, who is determined to reclaim the title he first won in 2009 as an amateur. Lowry will compete with other top golfers at the prestigious Royal County Down Golf Club, known for its challenging course and scenic beauty.

Royal County Down Golf Club is a Northern Ireland golf club in Newcastle, County Down. It opened on 23 March 1889 and is one of the oldest golf clubs in Ireland. It has two 18-hole links courses, the Championship Course and the Annesley Links.

The competition will be held on the Championship Links Course, also considered one of the finest courses in world golf. Golf Digest ranked it top in its World’s 100 Greatest Courses list for 2024. The 2024 Irish Open will play to a par 71 and measure a maximum of 7,186 yards in length.

Which players will tee up at the 2024 Irish Open?

This year’s golf tournament presents seasoned veterans and young prodigies vying for one of European golf’s most prestigious titles.

Rory McIlroy, a four-time major winner, was born in Holywood, County Down, just an hour from the famous course in Newcastle. As a local hero, McIlroy often attracts large crowds in Ireland. His familiarity with local courses and conditions and his dynamic playing style make him a perennial contender.

McIlroy and his good friend Shane Lowry will be the main attractions at Royal County Down for one of the DP World Tour’s top tournaments. The Irish Open is always a popular event and has been won by many illustrious names over the years. McIlroy and Lowry both have Irish Open titles on their impressive resumes.

Apart from McIlroy and Lowry, Padraig Harrington, Seamus Power, and Tom McKibben will be part of the other star-studded Irish lineup at their home national open tournament.

The solid Irish crew will be joined by the multiple European Tour winner Tommy Fleetwood from England, the 2021 champion from Australia Lucas Herbert, and recent PGA TOUR winners Aaron Rai, Thomas Detry, and Erik van Rooyen.
