Fresh from the final signature event on the PGA Tour calendar, Motor City will welcome a number of golf’s biggest stars for what will be only the sixth time. With that in mind, one might be tempted to think the action in Detroit won’t live up to expectations, but based on the last five years, that would be a mistake.

The top players in the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

Just one year ago, fan-favorite Rickie Fowler was back in the winner’s circle at long last. After a playoff duel with Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin at 24 under, it was Fowler who came out on top to claim his sixth victory on the PGA Tour and his first in more than four years. As you would have guessed, Fowler is among the top names in the field for this year’s edition as he attempts to defend his title. With that said, he’s going to face some challenges.

First among those would be Tom Kim. The 22-year-old could be considered unlucky to not have won last week’s Travelers Championship, but let’s move on from the past. There’s no doubt that the 22-year-old will be looking to up the ante as he plays for the ninth consecutive week on the tour. If he can shake off his narrow loss to world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler, he almost certainly be among the last men standing. That brings us to another 22-year-old in the form of Akshay Bhatia. As is the case with Kim, Bhatia has been on a stretch of play such that this will be his eighth straight tournament. Having already claimed a win this year in San Antonio, expect to see him trying to increase the pressure.

Then, we’ve got Will Zalatoris who gave us some things to think about at TPC River Highlands. Indeed, so too did fellow Wake Forest alum Cameron Young, who finished just the 13th sub-60 round on the PGA Tour with his impressive 59 this past Saturday. Though he’s yet to register his first win on the PGA Tour, there’s no doubt that we will see Young pushing the bar in Detroit. As for the other big names to watch, they include PGA Tour stars such as Keith Mitchell, Min Woo Lee, Alex Noren, and Stephan Jaeger. The Rocket Mortgage will run from Thursday, June 27th, to Sunday, June 30th so don’t miss it. As for the full field and their odds at the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic, just take a look below:
