Rickie Fowler defeated Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa last July on the way to his first PGA victory in four years. Now, he begins round one of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. During all of the ups and downs, he’s had one person by his side - wife, Allison Stokke, who happens to be an athlete herself.

Stokke is an American track and field athlete who broke a number of American high school pole vaulting records in her youth. She attended the University of California, Berkeley and competed for the California Golden Bears track team.

She competed at the national level up until the age of 28, but fell just short of making the US Olympic team on two occasions.

Allison Stokke pole vault career

Stokke first came to prominence as one of the country’s top young young athletes while attending Newport Harbor High School. She initially favored gymnastics but switched to pole vaulting in high school and soon made headlines.

In 2004 she won the United States’ 15/16 pole vaulting title, registering a championship record of 12ft 6in.

Later that year she increased her personal best to 12ft 7.75in, breaking the American record for a high school freshman. The following year she broke the record for a sophomore, with a vault of 13ft 5.75in.

After that early success, she was tipped for Olympic stardom, but disaster struck when she broke her leg. Despite that setback she went on to rank second in the national high school rankings in her senior year.

While studying at the University of California she competed at the NCAA Division 1 Championships on two occasions. She tried out for the US team for the 2012 Olympic Games in London but failed to clear the opening height.

Although her athletic performances declined she moved into a new field, becoming a sportswear model for the likes of Nike, Athleta and Uniqlo. She has appeared in campaigns for GoPro, using her pole vaulting prowess in action videos advertising the camera’s capabilities.

In 2017 she began dating Fowler and the two got married in October 2019.
