With a stacked field that includes world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, 2023 Masters winner Jon Rahm and the ever tough Rory McIlroy and defending champion Cameron Smith to name a few, we’re taking a look at just who is the favorite to win the British Open and what the odds are looking like.

2023 British Open: The Lay of the Land

When the British Open gets underway on Thursday 20th, July, it will be the first time that the Claret Jug visits Royal Liverpool since 2014, and what a time we’ve had since then. We’ve seen the rise of golfers such as Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Smith, and Bryson DeChambeau to name a few, while we’ve also witnessed the decline of legends like Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia, both of whom will miss the tournament due to injury and failure to make the cut respectively.

As for those who will be hoping to lift golf’s oldest trophy this year, there is one man among them who we imagine will be itching to do so as he’s actually the one who claimed it the last time the tournament was held in Hoylake. Fresh off of winning the Scottish Open, Rory McIlroy comes into the event as one of the favorites, and rightly so. Though, it is worth mentioning that prior to his win on Sunday, it had been a tough time of late for the Northern Irishman as he just missed out on the U.S. Open. Where Scheffler is concerned, the American will also be gunning for a win having not finished outside of the top 12 for a very long time. There is also Brooks Koepka who just seems to keep on getting better. Lastly, we’ve got to mention Bryson DeChambeau who looked a sure bet for glory at the U.S. Open but ended up finishing 20th. Since then he’s been on the up with two top-10s and two top-fives in his last five appearances. Ultimately, this one is going to be tough to call, but there are a few usual suspects to keep an eye on.

Who’s the favorite and what are the odds?

Despite the presence of defending champion Cameron Smith and World no. 1 Scottie Scheffler, it’s interesting to note that neither is the odds-on favorite. You can see the projected top 10 below, but you can also take a look at the odds for the entire field here.
