Who’s the boxer willing to replace Mike Tyson and fight Jake Paul?
‘Iron Mike’ was expected to take on Paul in July but the fight was postponed due to the former heavyweight champion’s health issues.
It was one of the year’s most anticipated fights, but now the clash is on standby. Mike Tyson and Jake Paul were expected to meet inside the ring in a battle many fans were excited for, but everything has changed.
Tyson was advised to withdraw from the fight due to an ulcer flare-up episode. Whether the battle takes place or not will depend on Tyson’s recovery, but as for now, there’s no fight date.
When the fight was first announced there was a lot of controversy, as Paul is the much younger fighter, 27, and Tyson, 57, is well past his prime. However, the fans’ curiosity about seeing the boxing icon back into the ring to take on the social media personality turned into a boxer was bigger than anything else.
The boxing event was expected to happen on July 28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, a boxing event that would be aired on Netflix.
Tyson vs Paul on stand-by: who wants to step in?
Although it seems that there’s no better option than Tyson to take on the younger of the Paul brothers, his health problems took him out of the fight.
Another boxing great wants to replace ‘Iron Mike’ and face Paul, and that’s Roy Jones Jr. The 55-year-old former heavyweight champion, considered one of the best of his generation, has shared his interest to replace Tyson and make the fight happen.
Jones Jr. says fighting The Problem Child is a “great idea”, but how big would that fight be compared to Jake facing Tyson? It probably wouldn’t attract so many fans, as Tyson is one of the most charismatic sports personalities in the world.
The former multi-champion shared the ring with Mike in 2020, in an exhibition contest which was ruled a draw after 10 rounds of competitive boxing, considering both men’s ages by that time.
