Why did former UFC champion Ronda Rousey get suspended indefinitely at SummerSlam?
Fans of former UFC champion Ronda Rousey won’t see her in WWE action anytime soon, as she has been suspended indefinitely for the second time.
Ronda Rousey was defeated by Liv Morgan at SummerSlam in one of the most important matches of her fighting career, and she did not take it well.
She believed that referee Dan Engler made a questionable call that led to her loss in the title match, so she seized his arm and threw him over her shoulder, sending him to the floor. The 35-year-old pinned him down as he struggled until another official put an end to the incident.
Ronda Rousey fined and suspended
The WWE released a statement after ‘Rowdy’ Rousey’s outburst.
“Following her attack on referee Dan Engler at SummerSlam, Ronda Rousey has been fined an undisclosed amount and will be suspended,” according to the WWE website.
“An irate Rousey attacked the official after her SmackDown Women’s Title Match, claiming he missed Liv Morgan tapping out to the Armbar while he counted the pinfall.”
The Olympic medal winner took to Instagram to express her dissatisfaction over what she perceives to be favoritism in the wrestling promotion.
“Hey @wwe if you guys could stop screwing me to put over your golden girls at every major ppv that’d be greaaaaaat,” she wrote.
Liv Morgan: WWE title means more to me
In an Xfinity interview after the match, Morgan stressed that she won because she did exactly what she said she would before she got into the ring.
“I said I love this more, that I want this more, that I need this more… I survived Ronda Rousey and I’m still SmackDown women’s champion.”
Ronda Rousey is strongly associated with the UFC brand, where she became the first woman to be inducted into its Hall of Fame. Liv Morgan, on the other hand, has spent her entire professional wrestling career with WWE.
